"The Story of A Small Town Kid"
by Taylor Colbert

"I never fell in line with conformity,
and I never went along with the new trends.
I was never popular, just one of the poor kids
trying to fit in.

I didn't live in some big house,
no where near a facy suburb.
I lived in my small trailer,
on an old cemetary road.

We didn't have the best car of the year,
just one that made it day by day.
I didn't have the facy threads,
just what I thought was best.
I didn't have a lot of friends,
just the ones who were better than the rest.

I wasn't one of the nicest kids,
I had an unreasonable chip on my shoulder.
I wasn't one of those who wanted to
ruin your whole life.
I just wanted to be left alone, not tortured
another day.

I didn't care to sugar coat,
rip the truth off like a band aid.
I wanted things straight up,
not changed around by others.

I wanted to pretend I didn't care what
they thought or even said.
But the truth was it always hurt,
the more they hated me and called me ugly things.

It wasn't my fault I was born into
this crappy world with the problems
that I have. I didn't ask for asthma,
and certainly not eczema.
But those were the best cards
in their decks of pain and insults.

And even now in teenage years,
they're just as bad as then,
if not even worse.
It makes me thankful I don't
have to deal with them
a minute more.

It's amazing how well you described my life, I have asthma and eczema, I live in a town where everyone is upper-middle class and my mo works so hard but she can barely pay the bills even with her social security money. I love this piece it's amazing great job!
